Everything we do at Betsson is about improving the customer experience. In other companies the challenge is to come up with ideas on how to do it. Here, we have so many good ideas it’s like drinking water from a fire hydrant. This abundance of ideas is perhaps a reflection of the fact that Betsson is an international, multi-brand company where as a PO you interact with so many different teams and people within the business: developers, other POs, QAs, Managing Directors, Designers, Heads of Customer Experience, Customer support, Campaign Coordinators, Heads of Casino. One of the great aspects of working at Betsson is that you get to collaborate with other brands within the group as well as to compete with them. Sometimes teaming up means having a common solution that can be implemented on the our shared platform faster than an individual brand solution so it helps to be strategic.
As Product Owners we need to make a decision quickly, often on the spot; whether an idea is doable, good for our customers and for the business. You have to be able to say “no” but also to be diplomatic. If we think an idea is doable, then we talk to the developers to find out what’s the easiest, simplest and cleanest solution possible. The methodology we use is a Lean MVP approach, Agile, a mixture between Scrum and Kanban. This involves sprint planning, daily scrum meetings, weekly backlog grooming and a 2-week sprint retrospective.
Our main goal is to make sure we deliver business benefits, often acting as a bridge between the tech and the commercial teams. This way people on the business side know the developers are doing all they can to build awesome features that will benefit the business.
The guiding principles in our work are be organized, pro-active, communicate blockers or “bad news” the moment you know rather than keep hoping some miracle will happen, and do whatever is needed with the lowest risk possible.
